HARTLAND, Vt. (AP) – A woman who claimed to have multiple personalities when she was arrested in an arson case has been charged with setting a second fire, authorities said Monday.

Cheryle Potwin, 49, of Sharon, who already faces charges in a Sept. 29 house fire in Woodstock, was charged with arson, burglary and felony unlawful mischief in a fire on Hartland Hill Road that occurred the same day, according to the Vermont State Police.

Potwin is awaiting trial in the Woodstock fire and is being investigated in connection with several other fires in the region, including one that destroyed the Plainfield, N.H., home of Grafton Family Court Judge Ellen Arnold – also on Sept. 29.

Potwin told police after she was arrested that she has nine different personalities.

She is charged with burglary and attempted first-degree arson in the Woodstock fire and is being held in lieu of $50,000 bail. Last week, Potwin was deemed competent to stand trial after a psychiatrist determined that she understands the charges against her and can help in her own defense.
