LITCHFIELD – An oil tanker truck carrying 9,000 gallons of No. 2 heating oil rolled over late Tuesday night at Mile 93 of the Maine Turnpike, closing the southbound lane.

The Sabattus exit is located at mile 86 and the West Gardiner exit just beyond mile 100.

Few details were available early this morning, but Maine State Police were responding to the accident, believed to involve a Webber Oil truck, according to a police dispatcher. It was unknown how much of the oil spilled, but the cleanup on the scene was expected to take several hours.

The driver, who police said was trapped in the vehicle for a time, was not believed to be seriously injured. His name was not immediately available.

As of midnight, the rig was completely blocking the southbound lane and police were advising motorists north of Litchfield to take I-295 to travel south from the Augusta area.
