Thank you to the Sun Journal for updating the public on the Stanton Bird Club’s efforts to improve Thorncrag (Nov. 13). I wish to clarify a reported fact that may have resulted from miscommunication.

The plans for the nature center have not been canceled. This has been a two-phase project since its inception. The nature center has always been part of Phase Two, and the club intends to vigorously pursue these plans as soon as Phase One is complete. There has been no change in the long-term scope of our plans. While some may think Stanton has taken a long time, the time to plan the details and build our capacity has been well-spent.

Stanton, as an all-volunteer organization, has been conservative in developing plans, ensuring fiscal responsibility, and including the input of neighbors and a wide array of members and supporters to create a truly magnificent project.

In granting our request for permit renewal, the city planning board recognized the overwhelmingly positive response we’ve received from local businesses and individuals. Our fundraising is proceeding at a rapid pace, and we do expect that the project will be under construction at some point during 2007.
