BANGOR – Congressman Mike Michaud has announced the nominations of 21 Maine men and women to service academies.
Candidates are nominated on a competitive basis. A committee selects 10 nominees for each academy vacancy. The academies review the nominees and offer appointments to those candidates whom they determine are best qualified to meet the challenges of academy life.
Local nominees are:
Air Force Academy
Andrew McCarthy, a graduate of the Air Force Academy Prep School, son of Ronald and Ae Cha McCarthy of Strong.
Military Academy
Kevin Gallagher, a senior at Telstar Regional High School, son of Thomas and Elizabeth Gallagher of Bryant Pond.
Naval Academy
Charles Cummings, a senior at Hebron Academy, son of C. Bradley Cummings and Cynthia Reedy of Norway.
Brendan Kreckel, a senior at Mountain Valley High School, son of Dieter and Jennifer Kreckel of Rumford.
Students nominated to multiple academies
Steven Donovan has been nominated to the Military Academy, Air Force Academy, Naval Academy and Merchant Marine Academy; a senior at St. Dominic Regional High School, he is the son of Richard and Jeanne Donovan of Auburn.
