LISBON – A 17-year-old from Auburn died as a result of injuries he suffered in a head-on crash on Route 196 Saturday afternoon, according to Lisbon Police.
Investigating officer Ryan McGee of the Lisbon Police Department, the first to arrive at the scene, said the young man’s identity is being withheld pending notification of his family. He was taken to Central Maine Medical Center where he was pronounced dead.
According to McGee, the teenager was driving a maroon 1987 Plymouth Sundance east on Lisbon Street, shortly after 2 p.m., near A.S.A.P. Appliance Repair, when his vehicle crossed the yellow double lines and crashed head-on into a black 1997 Chevrolet Blazer, approaching in the opposite direction.
The driver of the Blazer, Adam Rinko, 26, and his passenger, Chris Moyse, 23, both of Lisbon, were treated and released from St. Mary’s Regional Hospital in Lewiston, officer McGee said.
Lisbon Fire Department and two ambulances from Lisbon Emergency responded to the scene.
Maine State Trooper Lawrence Rose was called to the scene to assist with reconstruction. The cause of the accident is still under investigation.
Both vehicles were demolished in the crash, which closed the busy road for more than an hour.
