LEWISTON – An international human rights day featuring music, film and presentations will take place from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday at Lewiston-Auburn College.
“Humanity in the Shadow of Genocide: Presentations on the Human Rights of the Eurafasian People” is free and open to the public, but donations will be accepted.
The schedule of events includes a 1996 film, “Prisoner of the Caucasus,” which will be shown from 10 a.m. to noon.
From noon to 1 p.m., there will be a Somali lunch and music of Alan Shavarsh Bardezbanian.
From 1 to 3 p.m., there will be presentations on human rights and then from 3 to 4 p.m., there will be an open forum for discussion, followed by coffee, dessert and poetry from 4 to 5 p.m.
Proceeds will benefit the American-Chechen Solidarity Group. Attendees are asked to bring donations of warm clothing and blankets, which will be shipped to Chechen refugees in the Caucasus Mountains of Eurasia.
