WOODSTOCK – A public hearing on the proposed opening of Concord Pond Road to winter maintenance has been moved to Monday, Dec. 18, at a rescheduled selectmen’s meeting.
The town received a petition to open the road from a majority of members of the Concord Pond Camp Owners Association.
The road, according to Town Manager Vern Maxfield, has been closed in winter since the mid-1960s. Today, Maxfield explained, some people are living along it year-round and there is a strong chance that others will build in the area.
“There are three miles in Woodstock and one mile in Milton, so we are not talking about opening a road which is made up of a lot of distance.” Maxfield said. “But if we open the road we will be contracting out the winter maintenance, as it would be a long trip for our town crew to drive from Bryant Pond to plow and sand and keep it passable.”
He added, “We are putting out notices asking for bids for the plowing and sanding of the road and hope to have some back on the 18th, so we can give the people an idea of what it is going to cost.”
The public hearing is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. as part of the selectmen’s regular meeting which begins at 5.
In other business, selectmen decided not to support a junk ordinance proposed by citizens initiative, stating they felt the such an ordinance was necessary.
They also agreed to support the Whitman Memorial Library Board switching to the town’s basic Internet service.
