YWCA hosts annual children’s harvest party

LEWISTON – The children attending child care at the YWCA of Central Maine celebrated the holiday season with the annual harvest party. Parents, grandparents, volunteers and staff gathered with the children to share the traditional harvest meal in the Wade Center.

The annual event is always well attended. The child care staff prepares the main course – usually turkey. Parents and other attendees contribute to the celebration by bringing a dish from their family tradition to share.

Children worked for several days to create the decorations that made the Wade Center festive.

“With the addition of the infants and toddlers, this year we had a terrific gathering,” said Pamela Murphy, director of child care services. “Everyone seemed to enjoy themselves. The children especially like to show off their classrooms and introduce their teachers to their family members.”

The YWCA is a United Way funded agency providing year-round child care services to the community. To learn more, call 795-4050 or visit www.ywcamaine.org.
