Sharing meal

RUMFORD – The Widows or Widowers Sharing will meet at noon Wednesday, Dec. 13, in the Rumford Methodist Church fellowship hall, Linnell Street. The church personnel will cater a ham dinner. Attendees should contact Margaret Aleck at 364-8624 to register and prepay.

Following the meal, Christmas music will be performed by Norman and Isabelle Robichaud and Bernadette Hodgkins.

They perform regularly with the Fishers of Men. Among the musical instruments will be guitar, harmonica and accordion. There will also be a singalong.

Members are invited to bring canned goods for the local food pantry. All area widows and widowers are welcome to preregister for the meal and program.

Cartridges wanted

RUMFORD – The Maine Elks Association is collecting empty inkjet and toner cartridges. All proceeds will benefit the Maine Children’s Cancer Program.

Empty cartridges may be donated to 22 lodges around Maine. For more information locally, contact Chairwomen Debi Briggs at 364-2479 or Sandee Welch at 364-2548 at the Rumford Elks Lodge. For pickup, contact the chairwomen.

History available

PERU – The Peru Historical Society has placed copies of the “History of Peru, 1789-1911” by Hollis Turner at the Peru Town Office for $30. They may be picked up anytime that the office is open or reserved by calling the office at 562-4627 or Robert Dolloff at 562-7141.

The Peru Historical Society will not meet in December, but the annual meeting will be held on Wednesday, Jan. 10.

Calendars ready

STRATTON – The Dead River Area Historical Society’s pictorial 2007 calendars are available. The cover features Stratton High School Class of 1957 – 50 Years Ago with John Wilbur, Arlene Knowles, Bette Sue Townsend, Ada Bachelder, Paul Taylor, Phil Wyman, Billy Jones, Diana Phelps, Clayton Hennigar and Diane Leclair.

The calendars are at Pine’s Market, Northland Cash and Fotter’s Market, or they can be purchased through the mail for $6, plus $2 for postage for each calendar. Send to Dead River Area Historical Society, PO Box 15, Stratton, ME 04982.

Puppet show

LIVERMORE FALLS – Eaton Memorial UMC has recently begun a new puppet ministry. They will hold their first production at 6:30 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 16, at the church, Church Street. The entire community is invited for the show and refreshments afterwards.

The show will be repeated at 10:30 a.m. Sunday, Dec. 17, during the regular worship service.
