LEWISTON – Power crews scoured the city Friday night searching for the source of an outage that left 2,800 homes and businesses in the dark.
The blackout effected homes on nearly four dozen streets around the Central Avenue area in Lewiston. Also without power were homes in the College Road area and on four dozen streets in Greene. The outage was first reported at about 6 p.m.
A Central Maine Power Co. spokeswoman said crews in three trucks were searching for the cause of the outage at about 7 p.m. It appeared that the outages occurred along a main power circuit running from the edge of Lewiston into Greene.
Police said they were not aware of any significant problems resulting from the outages. It did not effect traffic lights and police did not need to send officers out to control traffic.
In Greene, residents in the areas of Allen Pond Road, Hatch Hill Road and Old Greene Road reported that they were in the dark.
Power was restored to all neighborhoods by 8 p.m. A CMP official said crews restarted the system and got the power back on. The cause of the outage remained unknown.
