FARMINGTON – Caring for, moving, watching and selling trees becomes a full-time job for Craig Weeks of Wilton during the Christmas season.

The rest of the year he works as a carpenter, but since he and wife, Kimberly, took over the family business – Weeks’ Christmas Trees – last year, he’s spent his Advent season in and around a hut on McCrillis Corner Road, selling trees at all times of day.

The business is open until 8 p.m. weekdays and 10 p.m. on weekends because, Weeks said, his family has found that many people buy trees on impulse, when they’re on the way home at night. A lot of people would rather load up with a tree late Saturday night after a evening’s worth of Christmas-gift shopping, or on Wednesday after work, than come out midday on the day they plan to decorate.

By now, 90 percent of the wreath-selling business has dropped off, Weeks said, although he’ll be selling creations decorated by Kimberly right up until the store closes at Christmas. Most of their business from now on will be selling trees. He won’t stop selling them until he’s out, even if that means working Christmas Eve, Weeks said.
