Santa lights Legion tree

OXFORD – Santa Claus, with the help of children, applied the “Magic Dust” to light up the veterans’ tree at the Anderson-Staples American Legion Post 112 on Dec. 1. The tree gives the Legion an opportunity to pay tribute to the lives and service of military personnel.

After the tree was lit, all went into the post home for a brief ceremony that began with the U.S. flag being presented by the Cub Scout Pack 196 color unit, followed by the national anthem sung by Cub Scout Garrett Hasslett. The list of veterans honored by lights was read by Auxiliary 112 President Linda Jack.

More than 40 kids, young and old, had their photos taken with Santa and Mrs. Claus. A token gift was given to all, and light refreshments of homemade cookies and cupcakes, hot cocoa and warm apple cider were served by the Auxiliary. Post Adjutant Joe Bernard thanked the Scouts for doing their “good turns daily.”
