ORONO – Marie Dubord of Auburn, a University of Maine graduate student in Student Development in Higher Education, has received the Richard F. Stevens Outstanding Graduate Student Award in Higher Education.

The award was presented at the NASPA Student Affairs Administrators in Higher Education Region 1 conference in Portland.

Recipients are chosen by the Maine Association of Student Affairs Practitioners’ awards committee upon review of nominations and letters of support. The statewide award is given annually to graduate students who have made a significant contribution to their home campus; demonstrated academic achievement; exceeded the expectations of their respective leadership positions; assumed a leadership role at their institution and/or at the state or regional levels; and demonstrated an interest in the field of student affairs.

Recipients receive a scholarship in the amount of their registration costs to the NASPA Region 1 fall conference.

Dubord’s accomplishments were celebrated at an awards banquet given in honor of state and regional awards recipients. Also recognized was Kyle Webster, also a student in the Student Development in Higher Education Program and coordinator of GLBT Services at the University of Maine, who was celebrated as a Richard F. Stevens award nominee.

Dubord is the fourth consecutive UMaine graduate student in the Student Development in Higher Education program to receive the award. She serves as the graduate assistant for the Women’s Resource Center at the University of Maine and served in the 2005-2006 academic year as graduate assistant in the Student Organizations and Leader Development office. She earned her bachelor’s degree at the University of Maine in 2002, and served as Midwest admissions representative for the university from 2004-2005.
