MEXICO – A 43-year-old man was charged with gross sexual assault earlier this month at an apartment on Riverside Drive.

According to a Mexico police report, Luis A. Ortiz of 119 Main St. was arrested at 6:17 p.m. Dec. 2 by officer Dean Benson. He was charged with the rape of an 18-year-old.

Ortiz was taken to the Oxford County Jail where he was incarcerated in lieu of $8,000 cash bail. Benson was assisted by officer Bernadette Dickinson.

• Kurt Young, 37, of Carver Street, Mexico, on a charge of domestic assault at 11:47 p.m., Dec. 4 at Cherry Street. He was released from the Mexico Police Department on $300 cash bail with the conditions that he have no contact with the victim. He is scheduled to appear in 11th District Court, Northern Oxford Division, on Jan. 2.

Accidents

• A 38-year-old Mexico woman sustained minor injuries at 12:15 p.m. Dec. 14, when she was hit by a 1998 Chevrolet sedan driven by Marion Porter, 50, of Dixfield. Sheri Mathieu of Granite Street was struck by the sedan as Porter backed up at the Mexico Mobil station on Main Street. Mathieu drove herself to Rumford Hospital.

• A 2000 Toyota pickup truck driven by Paul A. Jones, 73, of Dixfield sustained $9,000 damage when Jones lost control of the vehicle as he was driving west on Route 120 at 8:42 a.m. Dec. 4. The pickup crossed into the opposite lane, struck the embankment, rolled over and landed on its left side. Slippery road conditions due to a snow shower may have contributed to the accident.
