This year, Lewiston High School’s class of 2007 is participating in a “simple alternative fundraiser.” No money donations involved, no soliciting, just involvement. The class of 2007 is currently collecting empty ink, toner, and fax cartridges along with old cell phones. Funds are going towards future senior endeavors, such as project graduation, and the class averages about $2-3 per cartridge.
Did you know that the plastic in each printer cartridge takes 1,000 years to decompose? That 1.5 million cartridges get to land fills each month? That 375,000,00 ink and toner cartridges are thrown away each year, enough to circle the earth? That recycling one cartridge keeps two quarts of oil out of landfills? The class of 2007’s main goal is to involve the community with recycling. They are trying to involve local businesses, families, and organizations within the community.
Instead of throwing your old cartridges and cell phones away, just bring them to the high school. This fundraiser is an ongoing project, and all items can be dropped off at Lewiston High School in the main office. For more information you can email Matt Gutshall, the class President, at [email protected], or you can contact Linda Neczypor, the class advisor, at Lewiston High School.
People helping people while protecting the environment- it’s a beautiful thing!
