JAY – Selectmen approved a time-line for the 2007 annual town meeting referendum scheduled for April 23, Town Manager Ruth Marden said Tuesday. The referendum addresses school and municipal spending for the new fiscal year.
All municipal budgets are due to Marden on Jan. 2, with her meeting with all department heads on Jan. 4 and Jan. 5.
Budgets will then move to selectmen on Jan. 10. Selectmen review of the budgets with department heads and the Budget Committee is set for Jan. 16 and Jan. 17.
On Jan. 18 and Jan. 25, the School Committee and the Budget Committee are scheduled to review the school budget.
Nomination papers will be available for selectmen and school committee positions on Jan. 26 and will be due back on March 9.
An informational meeting on the proposed budgets for public comment will be held on Feb. 12.
A public hearing on the spending package is scheduled for March 12.
On March 23, absentee ballots will be available, 30 days prior to the referendum.
In other business Monday, selectmen tabled action on a bid for the Fire Rescue Department’s Engine No. 3, a 1980 pumper until it could be reviewed with Chief Scott Shink, Marden said. The town received one bid for $4,150 from Randall Berry of Livermore, she said.
