SOUTH PORTLAND – The Girl Scouts of Kennebec Council honored Sandra Featherman, Ph.D., and president emeritus of the University of New England, at its 10th annual Women of Distinction Dinner on Dec. 6 at the Portland Marriott at Sable Oaks.
The dinner recognizes local women who serve as exemplary role models for today’s girls and young women and acknowledges the unique achievements of women in all fields.
Kennebec Council CEO Joan McDonald said, “Dr. Featherman’s passion for quality education, community and public service are just a few of the many reasons we are honored to recognize her as the 2006 Woman of Distinction.”
This year’s event raised approximately $70,000, which will allow the council to continue to offer programs to more than 10,000 girls ages 5 to 17 in Androscoggin, Cumberland, Franklin, Kennebec, Knox, Lincoln, Oxford, Sagadahoc, Somerset and York counties.
