Early closing

CANTON – The Canton Town Office on Staples Hill Road will be open from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m. on Saturday, Dec. 23. The office is closing early due to the Christmas holiday.

Candlelight service

RUMFORD – The Rumford United Methodist Church will hold a candlelight service at 7 p.m. Christmas Eve, Sunday, Dec. 24, in the sanctuary on Linnell Street. Pastor Kelly Harvell said the service will be one of reading about the birth of Jesus and singing of carols. All are invited.

Book reading

RUMFORD – Burt deFrees will read from his book, “Gift of the Animals,” for a taped showing on local access channel 7. Joe Volkernick, a volunteer for the station, will tape the reading.

The show, according to Volkernick, will air the week of Dec. 26, but he was not sure of the time and day. The public may watch the station for the announcement of the show’s time.

The book has just been published, but was written 40 years ago when deFrees’ daughter, Evelyn, was a baby.

Bikers’ Ball

RUMFORD – The United Bikers of Maine will hold a Bikers’ Ball from 7 p.m. to 1 a.m. Friday, Dec. 29, at the Eagles Club. The event is open to the public. Tickets are $10 at the door.
