Marine meeting
AUBURN – The Central Maine Detachment, Marine Corps League, will hold a holiday meeting and buffet at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 28, at the New Auburn American Legion Post 153, 71 South Main St., New Auburn.
A short meeting will be held prior to the buffet. All members are asked to bring a dish to share and are asked to call Detachment Commandant Raymond Lemieux at 784-0656 to get a count. Maine Marine Corps League Commandant Edward E. Hoyt II will be a special guest. A moment of silence will be held for the soldiers who have lost their lives.
Senior fitness
LEWISTON – A senior fitness hour class will provide participants with a safe and effective workout that includes a warm-up, cardiovascular component, resistance training, plus flexibility exercises.
The class will build core strength to help improve or maintain activities of daily living. Certified instructors will lead the exercise, provide individual attention and monitor progress. Interaction among participants is encouraged.
Classes will be held Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays from Jan. 3 to Feb. 2. The class will be offered at two times, 9:15 to 10:15 a.m. and 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. It costs $30 and will be at the newly renovated Nutrition Center of Maine (formerly the Wallace building), corner of Bates and Walnut streets.

Yoga classes
LEWISTON – Central Maine Medical Center’s Health and Wellness Services will offer two yoga programs beginning in January.
Participants will be introduced to the world of relaxation, rejuvenation through yoga. Skills learned through the six-week series will include centering, balancing through poses, breathing exercise, meditation and relaxation.
One session will be offered once a week from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Tuesdays. A second session will be offered twice a week from 4 to 5:30 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays. Both sessions will begin on Tuesday, Jan. 9.
The instructor will be Marcy Cover, a certified yoga instructor. All programs are offered in the CMMC Health and Wellness Center, 12 High Street Medical Office Building. Fees are assessed.

Firefighters meet
AUBURN – Linda Siderio, widow of Al Siderio, was presented a clock when the Androscoggin County Firefighters Association met recently.
Siderio held the position of vice president of the association. He filled in for President Steven French and took minutes of the meetings. There was a motion to re-elect the president and treasurer, but Siderio’s office must be filled and nominations will be accepted.
The association will next meet at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 10, in Auburn.
Scouts help
AUBURN – Boy Scout Troop 111 of the United Methodist Church of Auburn and Troop 116 of Holy Cross Catholic Church of Lewiston once again donated manpower to the annual Parade of Jack-o-Lanterns, which has raised over the years $18,500 for the Maine Children’s Cancer Program.
“This was our sixth year,” said event organizer Helen Oullette, “and they have been there since day one, through rain, snow, wind and freezing rain; from start to finish.”
