LEWISTON – Healthy Androscoggin’s Quit and Win program registration is under way.

Quit and Win is a free program available to residents of Androscoggin County, including youth. Those wishing to quit need to register and quit smoking on or before Monday, Jan. 15, and stay quit until Monday, Feb. 19.

Participants who remain smokefree for the five-week program are eligible to win prizes, including cash of $500, $250 and $100 for adults. Youth who stay quit are entered into a drawing to win movie theater tickets, gift certificates to local restaurants and other prizes donated by area businesses.

Registration will end on Monday, Jan. 8. To sign up, visit www.healthyandroscoggin.org or call 795-5990.

Participants of Quit and Win will receive mailings throughout the program with resources, support and motivation. Everyone must sign up with a helper and the helper will receive information on how to support their friend or relative in quitting tobacco.

Angela Westhoff, executive director of Healthy Androscoggin, said, “Quit and Win is a great opportunity for people who have the desire to quit smoking. It is the extra incentive and support that some people need to pick a quit date and stick to it.”

In addition, Healthy Androscoggin has announced that a tobacco support group will be offered in conjunction with Quit and Win. Anyone who has quit or is trying to quit tobacco is welcome to attend the group that meets from 6 to 7 p.m. Thursdays at St. Mary’s Regional Medical Center, LePage Conference Room, 99 Campus Ave. The support group is free and open to the public.

Healthy Androscoggin is a community coalition funded in part by the Healthy Maine Partnership, Bureau of Health. For more information about this and other health-related events/resources, call 795-5990 or visit www.healthyandroscoggin.org.
