AUBURN – Gaylon Barry Harriman, 58, lost his courageous battle with cancer on Dec. 30, at the Hospice House, with his family by his side.
He was born in Mechanic Falls on Jan. 16, 1948, the son of Jack Harriman and Marybelle Colfer Harriman.
He was a graduate of Mechanic Falls High School and made a career in the Navy for 22 years. After he retired from the Navy, he worked at several jobs before joining the staff of the department of labor as a career counselor in 1998, and he had been employed at the Lewiston Career Center until his death.
He was happiest when surrounded by family or friends, telling stories about his travels in the Navy. He loved to help other people and could not pass a Salvation Army kettle without emptying his pockets. His favorite past time was riding his motorcycle with friends. He also enjoyed fishing and hunting. His love for his children and grandchildren could be seen in his face when he talked about them. He was also a wonderful stepdad and grandfather to his wife’s daughter and grandchildren.
He is survived by his wife, Anne, of Farmingdale; his daughter, Erica Robison, and son-in-law, James and granddaughters Malayka and Jayden of Mechanic Falls; his son, Scott and granddaughter, Tianna, of Lewiston; two sisters, Janie Smith, and her husband, Robert, of Poland and Jacqueline Cross, and her husband, Gilbert, of Bridgton; his stepdaughter, Angel Truman and grandsons Cody, Josh and Zachary of Farmingdale; his father-in-law, Donald Dupont; sister-in-law, Sandra Marks, and her husband, Jon; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was predeceased by his mother and father; and two sisters, Ruby and Shirley. He will be sadly missed by his family and many friends and also by his little dog, Baylee and cats, Max and Milo.
The family thanks staff of the Hospice House and staff at Hemacology Oncology Associates, Lewiston and special thanks to Dr. Ramon Cheleuitte and Dr. Andrew Smith, Augusta for their outstanding service and special friendship to Gaylon during his long illness.
