Club discussion

AUBURN – The Auburn-Lewiston Art and Literature Club will meet at 2 p.m. Monday, Jan. 8, at the Woman’s Literary Union.

The program will be a book report on Henry Wadsworth Longfellow followed by a group discussion led by Marguerite Powers and Helen Archambault.

Hostesses will be Phyllis Mixer, Phyllis Splain, Toni Ramsey and Dorothy Bentley.

Chapter Martel

LEWISTON – Chapter Martel, Association Canado-Americaine, will meet at 1:15 p.m. Monday, Jan. 8, in the Frye School hall, rear entrance. A meal will be offered at noon at Lewiston Mandarin Restaurant, 750 Sabattus St. Chapter President Cecile Paradis invites all members to attend.

Club Richelieu

AUBURN – The local chapter of Club Richelieu International Unique French Cultural Association will meet at 6 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 10, at Rolandeau’s Restaurant, 775 Washington St. Club President Daniel Isabel asks all members to attend to make plans for the year.

Lodge meeting

AUBURN – The annual meeting of Tranquil Lodge 29, AF and AM, will take place at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 10, at the Masonic Hall, 1021 Turner St. It will be preceded by a supper at 6:30 and all Masons are welcome.

Babysitting class

LEWISTON – The YWCA of Central Maine will offer an American Red Cross babysitter’s training course starting Jan. 13.

The course will provide individuals ages 11 to 15 with the information and skills necessary to provide safe and responsible care for children in the absence of parents or adult guardians. The training will help participants develop skills in leadership and professionalism, basic care, safety and safe play and first aid.

The course will be held on three consecutive Saturdays, Jan. 13, 20 and 27, from 11:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. The cost is $50 for YWCA members and $70 for non-members. For more information or to register, call 795-4050 or stop by the YWCA, 130 East Ave.

Business sessions

LEWISTON – Small business workshops will be offered through Lewiston Adult Education. Programs will be offered throughout the winter and spring that will target specific issues for the small business owner or manager.

The intensive workshops will allow participants to get management advice on topics such as marketing, communication techniques and human resource issues. Classes have been designed for local employees looking to build skills to use at work, to change careers or to enter the workforce.

Bridge winners

LEWISTON – The Lewiston-Auburn Bridge Club winners at the Multi-Purpose Center on Jan. 2 were: first, Nancy Farmer and Marta Clements; second, Shirley West and Pat Smith; third, Les Buzzell and Fred Letourneau.

Winners at Schooner Estates in Auburn on Jan. 3 were: first, Carolyn Robertson and Anna Vitiello; second, Rosemarie Goodwin and Larry Fortier; third, Martine Begert and David Lock.
