AUBURN – A driver whose car collided with an Auburn police cruiser just before midnight Tuesday was charged early Wednesday with operating under the influence.

Jennifer Bergeron, 22, of Auburn also was charged with operating beyond license restrictions. She had a conditional license that restricted her from having any alcohol in her system while driving.

Bergeron’s Dodge Neon struck the rear passenger side of a police cruiser driven by officer Shawn Carll, according to the Androscoggin County Sheriff’s Department, which is investigating the accident.

Carll was treated for neck and back pain at Central Maine Medical Center in Lewiston and released. Bergeron was not injured.

The accident occurred at Court Street and Minot Avenue, near Denny’s restaurant. The cause remains under investigation.
