AUBURN – Sylvan Learning Center has awarded $2,000 to the winners of its community writing contest. Awards were made as follows:

Elementary level

First, $400, George Lobozzo, grade four, Eastgate Christian School; second, $200, Victoria Ray, grade five, Burchard A. Dunn Elementary School.

Middle school

First, $400, Eric Colbath, grade eight, Lewiston Middle School.

Second, $200, Rebecca Poirier, grade eight, Lewiston Middle School.

Third, $100, Amy Yeung, grade eight, Lewiston Middle School.

High school

First, $400, Moriah Churchill, grade 12, Edward Little High School.

Second, $200, Sean Franklin, grade 11, Brunswick High School.

Third, $100, Nicholas Gaudette, grade 10, Lewiston High School.

Students submitted essays in December and were judged by Tracy Carrick, assistant professor of English at Colby College. Winners were notified at the beginning of January. A celebration party was held on Jan. 19 at which time winners were presented their checks and all other writers received participation ribbons.

Sylvan Learning Centers of Maine will sponsor another contest next year.
