AUBURN – Alice Leland (deRivera) Chartrand and David Clark Haines were married on Jan. 6, Our Lord’s Epiphany, at their home in Auburn. The Rev. A.L. Karker officiated at the double ring ceremony.

Attending were the bride’s mother, Margaret deRivera of Orland, who read a poem that the bride had written, and her husband, Rufus Wanning. The bridegroom’s sons, Brandon and Justin Haines, were witness and ring bearer. Friend Marcus Schlotterbeck read from 1:John 4-17. The bride’s sons, Thomas and Martin Chartrand of Rockland, and her father and his wife, Joseph and Deborah deRivera of Webster, Mass., sent their best wishes.

The bride is a graduate of Clark University, the University of Massachusetts Medical School and the Maine Dartmouth Family Medicine Residency Program. She is a family physician who works for Central Maine Medical Center-affiliated clinics in Lewiston and as a hospitalist at Penobscot Bay Medical Center in Rockport.

The bridegroom graduated from the College of Wooster, received his doctorate from Ohio State University and is a full professor of mathematics at Bates College, Lewiston.

The couple plans to honeymoon in Kenya, where they will volunteer in a refugee camp on the border with Somalia. They welcome well-wishes but request that any gifts be made in the form of donations to United Nations High Command for Refugees (UNHCR) Kenya, for Dadaab/Kenya Emergency.
