SABATTUS – An Augusta man was killed and two of his passengers critically injured Tuesday after a brutal, single-car wreck on Lisbon Road near John Drive.

A fourth man, the front passenger in the car, walked away from the accident, with minor injuries, according to Sabattus police Officer Jeremy Petty.

“I believe he is the only one in the car that was wearing a seat belt,” Petty said.

Police were withholding the names of the people involved until they had contacted all family members.

All four were between the ages of 18 and 21 years old. The driver, a 19-year-old man, was killed in the wreck, Petty said.

Petty said the four were simply out for a drive and had no clear destination. They were traveling south on Lisbon Road just after 5 p.m. Tuesday in a 2001 Chrysler Sebring when the driver lost control and veered off the road.

“The section they were on was a straight stretch of road,” Petty said.

All four of the car’s occupants were taken to Central Maine Medical Center in Lewiston.

The fourth was treated and released, then taken back to the Sabattus police station to give his statement to police.

Petty is supervising the Sabattus investigation of the accident. As part of the investigation, State Police will do a crash reconstruction.
