LEWISTON – The Lewiston-Auburn Tax Credit Awareness Coalition has announced that free tax preparation of federal and state returns will be provided at “Super Saturday” from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 10, at Andover College, 475 Lisbon St.

The annual event provides free tax prep service to low and moderate income workers as part of its Earned Income Tax Credit awareness campaign. The credit is a federal benefit to assist such workers in enhancing their financial stability. Those eligible may receive up to a $4,536 tax credit when filing a 2006 federal return.

Residents are encouraged to call 784-2951, ext. 109, to schedule an appointment; however, walk-ins will be accommodated if time permits.

In addition to free tax preparation, there will be financial education providers on site to answer questions and provide asset-building information regarding money management.

Representatives from the following organizations will be in attendance: Finance Authority of Maine; city of Auburn; Rural Development; Work, Women and Community; Key Bank; Maine Family Federal Credit Union; Androscoggin Savings Bank; Coastal Enterprises Inc.; Lewiston Career Center; Casey Family Services; Empower Lewiston; and Youth Connection.

Other informational handouts will also be available, to include material from Go Direct about direct deposit of federal benefits.

Those having their taxes prepared may also request a free credit report, and one-on-one assistance will be provided to assist individuals in reading and understanding their report.
