A Waterville man died early Saturday when his RV caught fire.

The State Fire Marshal’s Office says Colin Croteau, 65, was living in his 30-foot-long Winnebago when it caught fire. The RV was parked next to his house at 49 Violette Ave. in Waterville, but Croteau lived alone and preferred the camper to his Cape Cod- style house, officials said.

A neighbor reported the fire around 3:30 a.m., but the RV was already engulfed in flames when firefighters arrived. They found Croteau’s body after they put out the fire.

Investigators believe the fire started around a propane heater in the middle of the RV.
