BETHEL – The Oxford County Sheriff’s Department was seeking two men Sunday night in connection with a string of incidents that occurred at and around the Sunday River ski resort early Sunday morning.
According to Deputy Tom Harriman, deputies were called to a bar in the area of Sunday River for a robbery around 1 a.m.
When they got there, deputies discovered that a couple of jackets had been stolen from the bar. However, the victims of the alleged theft were gone when deputies got there.
“We were never able to get an actual statement from the victims,” Harriman said. “Instead, we took statements from their friends.”
Later, around 1:52 a.m., deputies were again called to the Sunday River area for an assault at the Sunday River Inn.
“It appears that two males and a female entered a room at the inn and assaulted two males who were staying there,” Harriman said.
“We think that the two males who had their jackets stolen may have went to the inn looking for their property,” Harriman said Sunday night. However, deputies found no evidence to suggest that the two men who were assaulted had anything to do with the theft.
The assault resulted in no serious injuries, said Harriman.
Deputies contacted the friends of the suspects who reported the earlier theft in an attempt to locate the two men. According to Harriman, the friends became uncooperative when asked about the two men’s whereabouts.
The Oxford County Sheriff’s Department continued to investigate the incidents Sunday night.
