LEWISTON – A man and two teens were arrested Monday in connection with a Saturday night robbery during which a man was beaten and robbed of cigarettes in an attack that left the victim with broken bones on Main Street.
Police said the attack happened about 9:45 p.m. Saturday as the 28-year-old victim was walking near 711 Main St. He was jumped by three teenagers who beat him so severely he was left with a dislocated shoulder and fractured leg, police said.
A witness to the attack was able to provide police with a description of a vehicle in which the suspects had fled. Detectives worked on the case over the weekend.
On Monday night, they arrested 18-year-old Shawn Jones, 18, of Lewiston, and two teenagers in connection with the attack. Each was charged with aggravated assault and robbery.
The victim of the attack was not identified. He was said to be recovering from his injuries.
Jones was taken to the Androscoggin County Jail in Auburn where he was being held without bail Monday night. The teens were expected to be shipped to a juvenile correctional center in South Portland.
Also on Monday, police were investigating a Saturday morning incident during which a woman stabbed a man in the groin to defend herself against an attempted robbery.
In that case, police the woman was walking near 115 College St., when she was approached by a man who attempted to steal her purse, police said.
Police said the woman struggled with her attacker until she was wrestled to the ground. At that point, the woman pulled a knife from her sock and stabbed her assailant in the groin. Police said the woman routinely kept the weapon in her sock for protection.
After he was stabbed in the crotch, the assailant took off on foot, police said. He was described as 5 feet, 10 inches tall, roughly 175 pounds and 25 years old. He was also said to have short hair and a mole on his chin.
Police have not located the suspect. The woman escaped the attack with minor injuries.
