RUMFORD – A NewPage Corp. spokesman said Wednesday that the No. 11 paper machine remains idle, and it wasn’t known when it will be start up again.

About 33 employees were laid off on Jan. 3 when the decision was made to shut down the machine because of market conditions.

Tony Lyons, spokesman for the mill, said once the machine is back up, laid-off employees will be called back.

The paper machine has been shut down and started back up several times during the past couple of years.

Local 900 union President Gary Hemingway could not be reached for comment.

The machine makes coated paper.
