AUGUSTA – Fortier Family Cheer Center, home of the national champion Planet Cheer All-Stars, in coordination with the Planet Cheer Parents Association, hosted the second annual State Capital Cheer Challenge on Feb. 11 at the Augusta Civic Center.
The event consisted of more than 30 youth/recreation and middle school cheerleading programs from around the state.
Event organizers worked in conjunction with the American Diabetes Association to raise awareness and funds for the disease. Representatives from the association were on hand with information and testing supplies that reached more than 1,000 spectators in the auditorium.
The Planet Cheer cheerleaders raised $500 the day of the event to donate to the American Diabetes Association. Planet Cheer plans to continue the relationship by participating in the “Maine Walks for Diabetes” event in the spring.
Planet Cheer teams are coached by co-owners Deneka Deletetsky and Tiffany LeBrun, along with tumble coach Matt Hanley II.
