PINKHAM NOTCH, N.H. (AP) – A man was killed after he lost control of his car on a snow-covered curve on Route 16 and collided with a United Parcel Service delivery truck Monday, police said.
Raymond Dube, 81, of Berlin, appeared to have been killed instantly, New Hampshire State Police said. The truck driver, Arthur Folsom, 52, of Littleton, suffered an injury to his right leg but declined to be taken to a hospital.
Dube was traveling south on Route 16 when he lost control of his car as he negotiated the sweeping curve at about 1 p.m., police said. As he tried to regain control, the car traveled into the northbound lane.
Folsom tried to avoid the collision by driving to the right so far that he was against a snow bank when the collision happened, police said.
The passenger side of the car impacted the front of the UPS truck and Dube, who was not wearing a seat belt, was thrown onto the passenger’s side, police said.
The road at the time was mainly clear and dry but the area of the curve experiences strong winds that had deposited snow on that section, police said, adding that they believed Dube lost control when he unexpectedly encountered the snow.
