Libraries to kick off community book read

PARIS – A kick-off event is planned for 7 p.m. Monday, Feb. 26, for the One Book One Community: Oxford Hills Reads program in the Forum at Oxford Hills Comprehensive High School, South Paris.

The program will include a talk by Craig Blanchard, who teaches history at the high school and is the creator of the school’s China Exchange Program.

Blanchard will elaborate on points of Chinese history mentioned in this year’s selected book, “Yeh Yeh’s House” by Evelina Chao, as well as other aspects of Chinese culture and society.

The talk will be illustrated with slides by Nancy Hohmann, another teacher who has been involved in the China Exchange Program. The public is invited to learn about the ancient civilization that is fast moving into the modern world.

Other activities planned for the kick-off include displays of Chinese-made items and Chinese food.

There will also be information about other programs planned for the Oxford Hills community throughout the One Book One Community focus on China.

For complete information about the events, contact any public library in the Oxford Hills or attend the kick-off program to sign up.

There will also be information about the author, with whom there will be a telephone interview at 6 p.m. Monday, March 12, at the Norway Memorial Library. All of the programs and events are free and open to the public.
