Gendron to speak

PARIS – The Rotary Club of Oxford Hills will meet at 7:30 a.m. today at the First Congregational Church, 17 East Main St., for fellowship and breakfast. Guest speaker will be Commissioner Susan Gendron, speaking on Gov. John Baldacci’s proposed school consolidated plan.

Lenten luncheon

BETHEL – The Bethel Area Clergy Association will begin its Lenten luncheon series at noon Thursday, Feb. 22, at the Locke Mills Union Church. Lunch will be followed at 12:30 p.m. by the speaker of the day. All are welcome to the six-week series.

Penny carnival

HARRISON – The Bolsters Mills United Methodist Church, Bolsters Mills Road, will have a penny carnival from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 24.

All games, foods and crafts will cost pennies, although people can bring dimes, nickels and quarters. Prizes will be awarded.

All the money raised will be used to purchase a Personal Energy Transport for physically handicapped people in Africa. It is much like a scooter/bicycle as it is powered by hand pedals.

Welcome, books

BUCKFIELD – The Zadoc Long Free Library has received 64 children’s, juvenile and young adult books through a grant from the Libri Foundation in Eugene, Ore.

To celebrate the addition of the books, the library will hold an open house from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, March 3.

Volunteers will read some of the new books throughout the day and refreshments will be provided.

Luncheon series

PARIS – The Oxford Hills Area Clergy Association is inviting the community to a series of lunches and reflections to be held at Deering Memorial United Methodist Church in Market Square, South Paris.

The lunches will be served from noon to 1 p.m. every Thursday in Lent, from Feb. 22 to April 29. During that hour, various area clergy will offer short reflections based on some of the themes and scriptures of Lent.

The lunches will be prepared by the people of Deering Memorial Church, who ask for a donation of $5. For more information, call 743-6782.

Church supper

WEST PARIS – A church family supper will be held at 5:30 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 25, at West Paris Baptist Church followed by a meeting.

Legion meal

WEST PARIS – Ring McKeen Post 151, American Legion, and Auxiliary will have a supper at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 27, followed by a meeting at the post.

Kids club

OTISFIELD – Otisfield Community School is offering a Pre-K Club for children age 4 and their parents. The goal of the club is to have children become familiar with the school while being exposed to some basic literacy skills.

The club will have three one-hour meetings. Children will hear a story, do an activity and receive free materials to practice with at home. Parents will learn about reading and writing with their child. It is asked that siblings stay at home due to space.

The first meeting will be from 6 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, March 20. Call 627-4208 or stop by the elementary school to sign up. Space is limited.

Trips available

PARIS – Oxford Hills Travelers have one seat left for the trip to Stars on Ice on Saturday, March 24. The next trip will be Lunch, Laugh and Learn at Norlands in Livermore. A few seats are left on that one.
