HARTFORD, Conn. (AP) – The dream of sudden riches ended Tuesday for nearly 200 people hoping to win a year-old Classic Lotto jackpot.

Connecticut lottery officials examined 186 lost ticket claims for the $3.5 million jackpot last week and said none of the claims is valid, spokeswoman Diane Patterson said.

None of the claims had the right information, such as where and when the winning ticket was purchased and similar information, Patterson said.

“We don’t think people were trying to scam us at all,” Patterson said. “The numbers were familiar to them.”

Those claiming to have lost a ticket must pay a $100 nonrefundable fee.

The ticket, which was sold for a Feb. 14, 2006, drawing, had winning numbers of 15-17-19-26-37-38.

Not everyone is a loser. The Coventry Getty Mart in Coventry, which sold the ticket, will receive a $10,000 bonus.

A lump-sum payout would have totaled about $2.2 million before taxes, so lottery CEO Jim Vance will determine whether to put that amount in the state’s general fund, use it to augment other lottery prizes or help pay for agency promotions.
