VIENNA – Eight fire departments were on the scene of a house fire on Route 41 late Wednesday night, a Winthrop Police Department dispatcher said.

The fire at 468 Townhouse Road was called in by a Vienna firefighter who lives near the burning home, the dispatcher said. His identity and that of the homeowner were not available late Wednesday.

There was no word from the scene on whether anyone was in the home or if anyone was injured, according to the police spokesman.

Fire departments from Vienna, Fayette, Chesterville, Mt. Vernon, Wayne, Readfield, Manchester and Belgrade were trying to extinguish the fire at 10:30 p.m., more than 90 minutes after it was reported.

Personnel from NorthStar Ambulance of Farmington, Central Maine Power Co. and the Maine Department of Transportation were also at the scene, the dispatcher said.
