LEWISTON – The Greater Androscoggin Humane Society invites the community to its third annual Kitten Shower on Friday and Saturday, March 2 and 3.

Through the year of 2006, 1,391 kittens were brought to the animal shelter. To help care for the “babies,” shelter staff invites the public to participate in a “shower” and help them get ready for the newborns.

Donations such as dry and canned kitten food, kitten milk replacer, clay litter, litter boxes, cat and kitten shampoo, blankets and cat toys are a few of the many supplies needed to help with the upcoming increase in kittens.

The society provides a haven for more than 4,000 sick, homeless and abused animals a year. The primary support comes from fundraising events and donations.

The society is located at 55 Strawberry Ave. For more information on the shower, items needed for the animals, the cats and kittens available for adoption or how to become a foster parent and help care for a litter of kittens at home, call the shelter at 783-2311 or visit www.gahumane.org.
