NEW BEDFORD, Mass. (AP) – Police in Baltimore have arrested a New Bedford couple accused of kidnapping their two children from a foster home early Sunday, police said.

Gene Hebert, 29, and Debra Hebert, 32, were found with the missing children – aged three and nine. The couple will face custodial kidnapping charged once they are returned to Massachusetts. They will first be arraigned in Maryland on a fugitive from justice charge, New Bedford police said in a statement.

New Bedford police received a call at 2:12 a.m. stating that two young girls were missing from their bedroom. They were last scene there at midnight by foster parents who had temporary custody from Department of Social Services, according to the statement.

“Preliminary investigation revealed that the parents had lost custody of the children and there was some indication that the parents my have been involved in the disappearance of the children from the foster home,” according to the statement.

A national broadcast was transmitted to law enforcement agencies countrywide, describing the parents and missing children.
