BUCKFIELD – Selectmen were given copies of the 73-page Emergency Management Plan on Tuesday night to review and amend.

The plan covers the towns of Sumner, Buckfield and Hartford and describes how residents, property and the environment will be protected in a disaster or emergency.

The plan’s four phases are:

• Mitigation – activities that eliminate or reduce the chance of occurrence or the effects of a disaster.

• Preparedness – activities describing how to respond should an emergency or disaster occur and working to increase resources available to respond effectively.

• Response – immediate activities that prevent loss of lives and property and provide emergency assistance.

• Recovery: short- and long-term activities to restore order and lifelines.

A tentative date of April 25 was set for a meeting of the three towns to discuss emergency management.

The board also set the annual town elections for June 19 and the annual meeting June 20.

Town Manager Glen Holmes said the Comprehensive Plan calls for four committees: economic development, historical preservation, conservation and ordinance development.

Resident Joyce Hartson asked the board about the transfer station hours because of turning clocks ahead one hour on Sunday. Holmes said starting next week, the transfer station will be open until 6 p.m.

Hartson also complained about slow snow removal on the sidewalks in front of village businesses. Holmes said they would try to work more quickly in the area.

The board was given copies of the annual financial audit report to review.
