RUMFORD – An 18-year-old Mountain Valley High School senior was expelled Tuesday night for violating the school’s policy on the use of drugs or alcohol on school grounds.
After a 60-minute executive session, the board voted unanimously to bar Logan White of Rumford from school activities. He, his parents and sister, high school Principal Matt Gilbert and assistant high school Principal Christopher Decker met with Superintendent Jim Hodgkin and all board members except Chairwoman Linda Westleigh, who excused herself because of a conflict of interest.
White was arrested Feb. 16 by the Rumford Police Department on charges of aggravated marijuana trafficking and furnishing drug paraphernalia at the high school. He is scheduled to be arraigned April 6 in Oxford County Superior Court in Paris.
A group of about 20 students waited in the hallway while the expulsion hearing took place. No emotion was shown by the group when the board took action, Hodgkin said.
White’s expulsion was the second in the district this school year. Last week, a Mountain Valley Middle School boy was expelled for assaulting a staff member at the school.
