SANFORD – The Maine Band Directors Association Inc. continued its winter guard season on March 4 at Sanford High School. Five high school color guard groups performed for evaluations. Percussion ensembles from Edward Little High School and Salem, N.H., High School also performed in exhibition.

The high school winter guard groups received star ratings in the areas of general effect, ensemble analysis, equipment and movement, as well as an overall star rating.

Guards receiving overall ratings of two stars were Edward Little, Marshwood, Sanford and South Portland. South Portland High School received three stars for equipment and general effect.

The Maine Attraction, an independent guard, received an overall rating of three stars.

The percussion ensembles followed the adjudication of the guard groups. Edward Little High School’s ensemble performed in a concert format. It was followed by a display of intricate marching by the Blue Devils marching percussion line from Salem High School.

The next show will be held at 6 p.m. Sunday, March 11, at South Portland High School. The last show of the regular season will be at 6 p.m. Saturday, March 17, at Lewiston High School. The 2007 MBDA Winter Guard Finals will be held at Leavitt High School in Turner at 6 p.m. Saturday, March 24.
