LISBON – Firefighters using a thermal imaging camera quickly pinpointed the source of a fire at a garage on Gartley Street that resulted in minimal damage.
Fire Chief P. Sean Galipeau said an employee in the building reported heavy smoke coming from the ceiling area shortly after 2 p.m.
Two vehicles in the building were removed undamaged, and no injuries were reported.
Firemen had the blaze “knocked down” within two minutes, Galipeau said, and cleared the scene in just over an hour.
The cause of the fire was determined to be a pinched electrical wire in the ceiling area near an outside wall. Damage to the 40- by 50-foot wood-frame building owned by the nearby Open Door Bible Church was estimated at $5,000.
Firefighters from ET Smith Hose Company in Lisbon and the Lisbon Falls Fire Department responded to the scene. Following new rapid response intervention policies, Topsham was dispatched to the scene for backup in the event of injury or equipment breakdowns, Galipeau said.
Lewiston and Durham fire departments filled in at Lisbon and Lisbon Falls respectively.
