I have learned that 10 percent of all teens with an eating disorder are male. According to teenhealth.com, girls and boys are pressured to be skinny, so they start to decrease their eating habits.
When girls are called “fat” they begin to think they need to lose weight and so they starve themselves – which is a disease called anorexia – or they can make themselves vomit, which is also a disease called bulimia.
There are many treatments for them. I think that our teen society should have a special program that helps teens get back on track, because our city doesn’t have programs that are good enough for the teens with the eating disorders get back on track.
Some parents aren’t in their teen’s life, which is another thing that can cause them to get an eating disorder. Having an eating disorder can also become another disease called Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder.
A really important fact that I learned is that having an eating disorder like bulimia or anorexia can cause damage to your liver, heart and kidneys. I think it would be a good idea for more help or support groups for teens with eating disorders in the cities of Lewiston and Auburn.
