Hundreds of people die each day in the Darfur region of Sudan and our country is doing very little about this situation. Every day out in Darfur, women and children are raped and thousands of people are displaced.

As concerning as this is, what really concerns me is the fact that people don’t know much about this situation. What people need to be aware of is that this is a genocide and we need to do something about this.

The genocide started back in 2003 when the northern part of Sudan, which contained Arabs and Muslims, attacked the southern part of Sudan which consisted of blacks who were Christians and Catholics. It didn’t stop there, though more racial groups attacked Darfur, such as the janjaweed.

So far over 400,000 people have been killed and over one million have been displaced. This is a genocide we can stop. So that’s what we need to do stop this situation. What can we do? Donate money, clothes, non-perishable food, blankets and toys to organizations such as UNICEF.

That is what needs to be done, we can’t just let it continue.
