CARRABASSETT VALLEY – Voters will consider a $1.2 million project to improve the Outdoor Center at Wednesday’s annual town meeting.
The project calls for a nearly 3,000-square-foot-expansion to the center, more parking, a new well and reconstruction of the ice skating rink among other improvements.
Townspeople will consider three articles related to the improvements, which would authorize selectmen to borrow money for the project, accept grants and spend up to $65,120 from anticipated revenues in the public lot fund for trail improvements.
The proposed new construction is estimated to cost $485,800 and will add 2,932 square feet to the 3,200-square-foot 35-year-old main building. Interior and exterior renovations are proposed to cost $269,000, which would include new bathroom and kitchen facilities.
The town meeting starts at 7:30 p.m. at the Anti-Gravity Center.
Prior to that, a moderator will be elected and residents will have a chance to vote for town and school officials from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. at the town office.
Running unopposed for two, three-year selectmen’s terms are incumbents Lloyd Cutler and Robert Luce, Town Clerk Wendy Russell said.
Incumbent School Committee members Jane Luce and Jennifer McCormack are also unchallenged in their bids for re-election to three-year terms on the committee, Russell said.
Also running uncontested are incumbents Carl Demshar and Neal Trask for three-year terms on the Sanitary District.
Town Manager Dave Cota said if everything is approved, and not including school expenses or the Outdoor Center project, total municipal expenditures would be $1.7 million.
Due to not having state education funding figures, school-related tuition expenses will be considered at a future date.
Voters will be asked to spend about $62,000 from the school bus reserve trust fund, proceeds from the sale of the existing bus (about $6,000) and appropriate $5,000 from the 2007-08 school budget to buy a new school bus.
Residents will also consider raising and appropriating $5,000 to assist the New Library Committee in planning and fundraising efforts to build a new library.
