RUMFORD – Dean Gilbert, who works at the New Page Corp. as an electrician, was in Washington, D.C., the week of Feb. 5 to tell Congress about the need for action on several key forest resource issues crucial to protecting jobs, industries and forests in the Northeast

As a member of the Pulp and Paperworkers Resource Council, Gilbert traveled to the nation’s capital to PPRC’s annual “fly-in” to meet with legislators and other policymakers. The delegation of 75 met with a total of 243 members of Congress and dropped materials off at another 201 offices. They also visited the Department of the Interior, the U.S. Forest Service, the Bureau of Indian Affairs and the Department of Energy.

Main topics for discussion were trade, Endangered Species Act reform, wood supply and energy.
