School budget requests OK

ISSUE: The School Committee and the town budget committee agreed to ask town meeting voters to approve a $4,713,000 budget for the 2007/2008 school year.

THE SCOOP: The recommended budget is 1.15 percent higher than this fiscal year’s budget. However, projected increases in state funding should mean that the amount paid with local property tax dollars will not increase. The budget includes capital improvement projects: $44,000 to finish the asbestos floor tile abatement project, $30,000 for the first year of a two-year program to improve lighting efficiency at the Elm Street School and $10,000 for the bus reserve account.

UP NEXT: Voters will act on this proposed school budget at the May 19 town meeting.
