AVON – Voters will need to choose a new selectman and a new road foreman Saturday during the annual town meeting.
Both Third Selectman Darren Allen and Road Commissioner Rupert Potter are not seeking re-election, board Chairwoman Joyce Potter said.
Nominations for those positions and the SAD 58 director’s position will be taken at the meeting at 9 a.m. Saturday, March 17, at the town hall.
SAD 58 Director Ellen James is seeking re-election to a three-year term, Potter said.
Potter said voters will be asked to accept a donation of land from Bruce and Doris Spencer.
The land is currently used as a ball field and playground.
And for the third year in a row, residents will be asked whether they want to keep the old town house and land or sell it, Potter said.
In years past, voters have decided to wait and see if the historical society has an interest in the property.
If everything passes, the budget will be up about $11,000, Potter said, but not due to municipal expenses.
Phillips Fire Department is requesting an increase for service coverage from $10,000 to $16,000 for this year, she said.
Voters will also need to consider raising more for the town’s NorthStar Emergency Medical Services subsidy, which is $15,000 this year.
In an effort to offset the increases, Potter said, selectmen were able to lower town expenses or tried to keep the cost at the same level.
