FARMINGTON – Think you’ve got the luck of the Irish on your side? Try skimming, on skis or a snowboard, across the pond at Titcomb Mountain on Saturday.

To celebrate St. Patrick’s Day, the local nonprofit, neighborhood ski hill will hold its first ever pond skimming event on Saturday.

“It will just be a fun event, I think,” said Karleen Andrews, event director.

The event consists of a manmade pond, which will be about 2 feet deep and 50 to 60 feet long. The pond will be built at the bottom of Otter’s Slide, the mountain’s highest trail, and daring skiers and snowboarders will attempt to glide across the top of the pond without getting wet.

The event has occurred before at other ski hills and is a regular event during spring skiing celebrations and Titcomb expects it to be a success as well, Andrews said.

Weather permitting, pond skimming will start at 1 p.m. Saturday and run for as long as people are willing to attempt it. Registration begins at noon. The event is open to all, requiring no entrance fee. People under age 18 must have a parent’s consent and all people must sign a waiver form. Half-day lift tickets may be purchased, or participants may hike up the mountain. Spectators are invited.
